ROBERT MUCHINSKY: The best time to contact a lawyer is as soon as possible. When a person is arrested, he should immediately contact a lawyer, not make any statements to the police.

ROBERT MUCHINSKY: What the police like to do is to fix a person in a position and in a statement so that they could then chip away at that statement and try and incriminate him.

ROBERT MUCHINSKY: When you're arrested, you should call me immediately. I ask my clients to be honest with me, to tell me all the facts that they know. And that way I can properly assess their case and assess the proper course for the defense.
My priority is to get the best disposition that I can for my client. That could be a dismissal of the case, the state dropping this case, a reduction of the charges, or in cases where you don't have many choices, to get the best arrangement for him.
Preparation is key. Every case is different though. So every case takes a different kind of preparation. But one of the most important things is to know what you're, what you're trying to accomplish with a case, whether it be a diversionary program, a plea, or whatever, a trial, whatever you're trying to accomplish. You need to be as prepared as you can be in order to demonstrate to the state that you've got a strong defense.
